Fields of Research
In the Department of School Practice and Vocational Education and Training we address the myths and family secrets (Bourdieu) of modern societies, such as the illusion of equal chances for every school child or the chance of social upward mobility through education. We analyze the reproduction of social inequality through instructional and educational practices in schools, apprenticeships and on labour markets. We focus on the self-attribution of failure or low achievements in schools and search for compensating experiences in different work environments, closely connected to the DGB German Labour Unions’ concept and index of "good work", as well as for teacher training and school guidance concepts that might change the upsetting situation.
Hence further research on:
- Teachertraining in the aftermath of Hattie's evidence based survey and recommendations
- European policies of vocational education and training and the development of a national qualification frame in Germany
